Your legal responsibilities
KCSIE
Every member of school staff is legally required to read part 1 of the KCSIE guidance. The document provides statutory guidance to all schools and is put together by the Department of Education.
HASAWA 1974
The Health & Safety at Work Act 1974 states that adequate training must be provided to staff to ensure that health and safety procedures are understood and adhered to.
Fire Safety Order
Approximately 90,000 pupils a year have their learning disrupted due to damage from fires. The Fire Safety Order means that any person with some level of control in premises must take reasonable steps to reduce the risk of a fire. Fire Awareness Training is a legal requirement for all staff.
Food Hygiene Regulations
The Food Hygiene (England) Regulations 2006. The Food Hygiene Regulations (2006) place an obligation on all 'food businesses' to make sure that their activities are carried out hygienically. The regulations make it an offence to supply food which is unsafe to be consumed and harmful to human health.
