Section 1: Raising Awareness
SECTION 1

In this first section, we’ll be covering general dementia awareness. You’ll likely have knowledge on this already - especially if you’re an experienced carer or support worker - but it’s crucial to refresh yourself on the essentials and to keep up to date with our ever-developing understanding of dementia.

Section 2: Dementia-Friendly Environments
SECTION 2

In this section, we’re going to cover the things that someone can expect from their organisation if they’re diagnosed with dementia while they’re still working, as you may play a central role in making sure they’re offered the appropriate support. It’s crucial that organisations are not only dementia-knowledgeable, but also dementia-friendly.

Section 3: Active Planning & Active Caring
SECTION 3

In this section, we take a closer look at your responsibilities as someone who works closely with people who have dementia and their loved ones.

We cover what needs to be communicated to someone with dementia and their family carers; how it should be communicated; how to access this information; the importance of you and the family member becoming care partners and working as a team; and your responsibility to take initiative and proactively make the first move at the different stages of someone’s care.

Section 4: Living Well With Dementia
SECTION 4

In this final section, we offer guidance and practical tips on how to help a loved one or patient live well with dementia - we’ll guide you on how to use different types of communication, prioritise meaningful activities, and protect someone’s power of choice.
