Why is this training important?
Compliance
The Equality Act ensures the workplace is a fair environment for all employees, whilst respecting the protected characteristics of each individual. It protects people from discrimination on the grounds of sex or marital status, and sexual harassment.
The Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) – which is Britain’s independent equality and human rights regulator – has guidance stating that sexual harassment by third parties, such as clients, contractors, and customers, must be prevented.
Employers have a legal responsibility as stated in the Health and Safety at Work Act to keep their employees and anyone affected by the work they carry out safe and healthy. Managers play a key role in helping them do this.
UK GDPR & Data Protection Act states that complaints need to be handled in line with data protection rules.
The Criminal Justice and Public Order Act made intentional harassment a criminal offence.
The Protection from Harassment Act made it a criminal offence to pursue conduct that leads to harassment, or fear that violence will be used. If convicted, someone can be sentenced to up to six months in prison or receive an unlimited fine.
The Voyeurism Act has made upskirting a criminal offence. Upskirting is when someone takes a photo or video underneath someone else’s clothing, without that person’s knowledge or consent.
Culture
Sexual harassment can poison a workplace’s culture, leading to poor staff retention and low morale. Left unaddressed, even small cracks in workplace dynamics can grow into much larger issues, which damages team cohesion and could have severe legal consequences.
The role of managers is crucial in preventing these problems, through leading by example and responding quickly and appropriately to issues raised. This training emphasises practical prevention measures, such as assessing risk factors, reviewing workplace policies, and creating and maintaining an inclusive culture built on mutual respect.
By proactively equipping yourself with the skills and knowledge in this course, you’ll help prevent misconduct, protect your team, and ensure legal and ethical compliance.
Beyond compliance, this training empowers you to become a workplace champion for safety and inclusivity. Start this vital training today and take the first step towards a workplace where everyone feels safe, respected, and supported.
