About this course

2020 was the year that everyone’s ‘normal’ changed. Within the space of about a month, COVID-19, or the Coronavirus, changed our lives, including our working lives, almost beyond recognition. With social distancing stopping all but key workers from going to work, almost everyone has been affected in some way.

Whether you are soon to return to work, or even if you already have, this training course can offer workplaces some guidance and some simple steps that can be taken to ease you into a new normal.

This Online Course looks at return-to-work catch-ups, risk assessments, team communication, handling concerns/anxiety in connection to COVID-19, policies, and practices to consider (ie. social distancing), what to expect from managers during this time, and a few practical suggestions for handling pressure, finding focus, staying productive, and adjusting to 2020’s new-normal.

It doesn’t matter how long an employee has been away from the workplace - going back isn’t always easy. For many people, it’s a positive and exciting time - a step towards regaining a sense of normality, but for others, it can be daunting. There’s no right or wrong way to feel – it’s natural to have some concerns, but it’s how the return is handled that can make all the difference, both to the employee and your organisation.

Every organization needs to get its employees to take this course. i have been able to write down action plans on settling well into work

Patronising and inappropriate

With the exception of section 9, the course is heavily focused on 'return to work' rather than 'return to workplace'. It makes the assumption that a return to the workplace will be better for the company and employee, which is certainly not the case in those industries where remote working has shown significant productivity and job satisfaction improvements. By all means do this course if you really are 'returning to work' after being laid off or furloughed, but as a 'return to office' training course it is very poor.

Excellent idea, poorly executed in parts

Good idea to give ideas and skills for how to adapt to returning to the workplace and some of the content is incredibly useful. However, the training content itself is lacking and is often disconnected with reality. I thought in particular the advice for 'Opposite action' while in theory good, when presented in this way came across as 'buck up and just get on with it' as opposed to helpful. I really enjoyed some of the suggestions (e.g. listen to a good song or podcast) but wonder how realistic doing many of the suggestions while at work (as suggested) actually would be in terms of time commitment.The thing I found worst about this training is that it was tested, especially after the core focus of the course was individual wellbeing and health. I would understand testing were the course regarding understanding of COVID guidelines and workplace policy/requirements. However, in the context of trying to reduce anxiety and impart skills to cope with returning to work, testing the individual (something many find anxiety inducing in itself) to complete the training required to work seems highly hypocritical.
