Downtime on Sunday the 6th of May

At 6am on Sunday the 6th May our web host experienced an internal incident which led to a complete connectivity loss at their data centre in Reading. Our host believes that this was caused by malfunctioning switch software and are taking steps to mitigate against this occuring in the future as a matter of urgency. Reduced application functionality on Tuesday the 24th of April

Posted

Today at approximatley 12:15pm we began to experience a period of reduced application functionality where for some users video playback failed and elsewhere in the application it became impossible to access certificates or send emails. This also had a knock on effect on user imports as our job queue backed up with pending email jobs.

These issues were caused by a DNS resolution issue at Amazon which prevented our application from being able to establish a connection with a number of the third party services that we use. We switched video playback to our fallback CDN which mitigated the most significant problems for end users but pretty much had to just wait it out for Amazon to resolve the DNS issues impacting on certificate creation and email transmission.

Our hosting provider became aware of the issue at 12:15pm and advised us that the issue was resolved as of 2pm. We have continued to see some further minor issues subsequently but operation seems to be returning to normal now and throughout the evening we should be able to catch up on any pending user imports and email transmissions.

We apologise for the inconvenience this would have caused you today.

We have switched to our fallback video CDN in order to bring video playback online for all users and will update this post accordingly as we have more information from our hosting provider on the other DNS resolution issues. We apoligise for the inconvenience this is causing.
