Listening is good and pointing to appropriate services is really important. But a little more focus on integrity if somebody opens up to you, and not diagnosing or prescribing treatments, sometimes it is inappropriate to give somebody suffering with a health issue an excuse not to seek professional support.
As a starting point for everyone in an organisation this course highlights the importance of having conversations about mental health. The information regarding specific conditions or what to do is very basic, and varies between offering advice for the individual and for you to help others. The downloadable summary document at the end is useful though as it has links to lots of other organisations that provide valuable support and information.
Like the way info was presented - realk people speaking mixed with graphics. Content was a bit basic but understand it depends on your professional background. Think the treatments were all a bit general. CBT presented as a bit of a cure all. I think it didn't differentiate enough between very serious depressive disorders and other disorders like schitzophrenia/bipolar. It was more wellbeing focused. PTSD symptoms presented as similar to other disorders, the differences weren't clear, e.g. increased startle response. I did enjoy it though and the resources for further reading look intereseting.
Found it very basic
This is a good example of the saying "a contradiction in terms ". The course goes on about the subject and how to better yourself and be aware, yet at the end you give out a multichoice test which automatically induces mental issues, stress, anxiety etc.
I have a mental illness and too be honest half of this makes sense but remember that not all mental health issues are visible.
Was fine before I spent 40 minutes listening to it, but I am now quite depressed. Not sure that is the plan!
It provides some useful information but for the most part doesn't go beyond fairly basic advice. The format could be a bit more interesting, e.g. interviewing people with experience of mental health issues, more tests/exercises etc. The mental health guide associated with the course suggests alternative therapies such as homeopathy and reiki, but does not make clear that these are not evidence-based.
