Too basic

This is very entry level, I would have liked something more advanced. This should be called an introduction

Disappointing

As a psychology graduate working to support people with cognitive, language and communication difficulties, I was very disappointed with this course and felt that some of the information and 'facts' were quite problematic.I have a big issue with the course's prime definition of "communication", the implication that a person hasn't communicated until someone else has received (heard/seen/understood...) it, and the emphasis on the need for the person trying to communicate to be more effective... this completely misses the point that we all need to try to actively receive what other people are trying to communicate with us, and totally ignores the challenges experienced by people who are not neurotypical, are non-verbal, use sign language etc. For example - I have worked with people who were locked into their bodies and couldn't speak but could communicate very eloquently and effectively using eye-activated digital tools and their behaviour. Just because some people don;t give them the time and attention required to understand what they are 'saying' (or even realise they're saying anything), it is ignorant and patronising to imply or assume that they are not communicating.I also found it ironic that a course about communication skills opened with exclusive language ("Man is by nature...") and linked to resources full of both exclusive language and very poor English.
