Processing Personal Data is what the General Data Protection Regulation is all about. So, it’s important that your employees know what it’s referring to. In this section of our online GDPR course, we provide some background information that you need to know about the GDPR, including personal data; processing; controllers, processors, and data subjects; and the Information Commissioner's Office.
Section 2
The Principles of the GDPR embody the spirit of the Regulation and so it’s important that your employees are familiar with them. Following them is essential and failing to do so can result in some of the harshest fines allowed under the Regulation. There are 7 principles in total that we cover in this GDPR training section.
About this course
Now that the UK’s transition period (from leaving the EU) has ended, the EU GDPR has been brought into UK law and sits alongside other data protection laws and regulations.
Our GDPR Training provides employees with an understanding of their duties and responsibilities when it comes to processing personal data under the GDPR in the UK. This training course provides an in-depth look into the GDPR in the UK, building on the content of our GDPR EU Essentials course.
The General Data Protection Regulation has brought together years of different laws and regulations and combines them into a single technology-neutral piece of legislation which will form the foundation of data protection law for years to come.
Our GDPR training is aimed at staff who need to follow the rules and policies that are laid out by the GDPR. In this GDPR course, staff will learn about personal data, the principles of the GDPR, individual rights and will use some scenario-based learning.

Mind boggling
Information technology increasing at this rate is scary, your details are everywhere and not always secure, this course does a good job at highlighting the rights of individuals

Well delivered, clearly spoken
My one comment is, that although there are little 'quiz questions' in some of the modules, it is very much 'chalk and talk' – trainees sitting passively and listening with very little interactivity in between the start and the test. A good way I've found of improving engagement in training is to have 'what do you think' questions at the beginning and stress there's no right or wrong and that at the end of the training they'll be able to compare their initial thoughts with what they've learned., I've found that varying the method (i.e. not all multiple choice) helps. Most quizzing software has options such as Ranking, Matching, Fill in the Blanks, etc. Just suggestions but the trainer had a very engaging personality.

Excellent, accessible training
A great way to learn about a range of different essential topics in the workplace. The format and style is a great way to take even the most complex issues in bite sized chunks, with a test at the end to help ensure it's gone in.

A clear and concise course that covers all the main provisions and aims of GDPR without getting bogged down in too much fine detail. This approach enabled me to understand and absorb the information and gave me the tools and contact details to go into the subject in more depth, in order to make it more relevant to my own organisation.
Why is this training important?
Compliance
It’s important that you comply with the law and know the ways in which it affects you and the way you work.
In May 2018, the EU GDPR came into effect. At the same time, the UK also introduced a new Data Protection Act. This sat alongside the GDPR and set out certain provisions which the GDPR allowed countries to decide for themselves.
On 31st January 2020, the UK enacted the Withdrawal Agreement which, among other things, signalled the UK’s exit from the EU and entry into a transition period. During the transition period, all EU laws, including the GDPR, continued to apply. However, to avoid any problems at the end of the transition period, the Agreement also introduced the UK GDPR. This was a combination of the EU GDPR and the Data Protection Act which tweaked the European Regulation to make it relevant to the UK. During the transition period, both the EU and UK GDPR were in effect in the UK until the end of the transition when just the UK GDPR remained.
Today, both GDPRs are in effect in their own areas; the EU GDPR across the European Union and the wider European Economic Area and the UK GDPR in the UK.
