SHUSH | Samaritans Listening Tips

The Samaritans have produced a guideline you can follow when listening to somebody when they are opening up to you. You can download the SHUSH listening tips poster here.

What ‘SHUSH’ stands for

S-how you care

Focus on the other person, make eye contact, put away your phone.

H-ave patience

It may take time and several attempts before a person is ready to open up.

U-se open questions

Use open questions that need more than a yes/no answer, and follow up with questions like "Tell me more".

S-ay it back

Check you’ve understood, but don’t interrupt or offer a solution.

H-ave courage

Don’t be put off by a negative response and, most importantly, don’t feel you have to fill a silence.

iHasco raise over £2000 for the Samaritans!

This May, we partnered up with the Samaritans of Bracknell, Wokingham, Ascot and Districts, announcing that we will be supporting the branch with continuous donations and awareness-raising events.

We are now proud to announce that we have hit our £2,000 target for the year! This has come just under 5 months after announcing our partnership! And we don’t plan on stopping there!

It was all smiles in the office when it was announced. We couldn’t have a prouder team!

So a big thanks goes to Team iHasco for taking part in these fundraisers and donating any spare pennies! Additionally, we’d like to thank the Samaritans of Bracknell, Wokingham, Ascot and Districts for the continued support in our fundraising efforts, and for the service they voluntarily offer.
