A first step towards rooting out all forms of negative interpersonal behaviour in our august institution. Hopefully even the most senior managers need to take this test too. It would be excellent to discuss the issues at the heart of the course with them openly and frankly.
The content was good but having a Black woman as the bully and a white man as the victim creates poor visuals when women and people of colour are far more likely to be bullied or harassed than white men. Having a Black woman as the bully just perpetuates existing prejudices.
It was thirty minutes well spent and insightful
Places an excessive emphasis on the victims of bullying or harassment confronting the perpetrator - this will very often be unreasonable and add to the stress / distress of the victim.... And, by suggesting that this should be the normal first step for the victim, this risks 'adding to the problem' by providing an additional disincentive for victims to take action. The course should be revised to say that there could be SOME cases where a victim may feel comfortable making such an approach, the assumption should be that a victim should feel free to approach their manager (or somebody else such as HR or their union rep) informally at first - and that they should never feel that they need to confront the bully / harasser as a prerequisite step. I do hope you will take this feedback on board.
Course provides excellent coverage of all aspects of harassment and bullying in the workplace with clear explanations, examples and summaries.
