SECTION 1

In order to have an in-depth understanding of the GDPR, users need to know a little about its background. This section will provide users with a very brief history of the GDPR, explain what personal data is, what controllers, processors, and subjects are and the role of the ICO.

The 6 lawful bases of processing data
SECTION 2

There are 7 principles in total which can be split into 2 groups; the first 6 principles relate to how data should be processed and the final principle is about accountability, or in other words, about being able to prove that you’re complying with the first 6 principles. In the rest of this section, we look at the 7 principles in more detail.

The right to erasure: one of the individual rights
SECTION 3

The rights created by the GDPR are closely tied to the 7 Principles. By following the responsibilities in Section 2, users will already be most of the way to protecting people’s rights. So, in this section, we try to keep things short as we explore each of the rights, what they are, what they mean, and what you need to do.

SECTION 4

This section is the perfect opportunity to put what users have learnt in the course, into real-life situations. This section uses 3 short real-life scenarios which will ask users to put the lessons they've learned in this course into practice and find the best solution to each problem.

Clear and easy to follow

The presentation was well structured. The delivery was clear. The sections followed on from each other logically. However, it was a bit disconcerting to see a few slides where the presenter had a beard interspersed between those where the same presenter was clean shaven. It made it obvious that some slides in the sequence had been filmed later.

Really Interesting

Really easy to follow and understand. Liked the option to download reading material.

Good course but way too long

Detail in the course is very good but is very long and it would work better if the test was split into two sections half way through.

Very concise Courses.

Comprehensive courses covering a great range of disciplines. Some of the test questions can be tricky as they can be worded in such a way to catch you out, but I guess that's to check if you're paying attention. Very good format and enjoyable.

It was good and very true to life!

Nicely put for a tricky subject matter. Interesting take on the shaven and then unshaven presenter!

VERY LONG!!

Very complex course

I do not feel it warrants this level, Advanced (Management) to all staff. It should be more basic as we have teams that are specific to GDPR

Why is this training important?

Compliance

It's important that you comply with the law and know the ways in which it affects you and the way you work.

In May 2018, the EU GDPR came into effect. At the same time, the UK also introduced a new Data Protection Act. This sat alongside the GDPR and set out certain provisions which the GDPR allowed countries to decide for themselves.

On 31st January 2020, the UK enacted the Withdrawal Agreement which, among other things, signalled the UK's exit from the EU and entry into a transition period. During the transition period, all EU laws, including the GDPR, continued to apply. However, to avoid any problems at the end of the transition period, the Agreement also introduced the UK GDPR. This was a combination of the EU GDPR and the Data Protection Act which tweaked the European Regulation to make it relevant to the UK. During the transition period, both the EU and UK GDPR were in effect in the UK until the end of the transition when just the UK GDPR remained.

Today, both GDPRs are in effect in their own areas; the EU GDPR across the European Union and the wider European Economic Area and the UK GDPR in the UK.
