About this course

PUWER stands for The Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations. It provides needed guidelines to demonstrate how you can stay safe when using equipment at work. The regulations place duties on people and companies who own, operate or have any sort of control over work equipment. PUWER also places responsibilities on businesses and organisations whose employees use work equipment.

Our CPD Accredited Online PUWER Training course aims to educate you on when equipment is suitable for use, safe to use, inspected properly and accompanied by suitable health and safety measures. This course is perfect for working towards compliance with current legislation.

You will find that some types of work equipment are subject to other legislation, such as LOLER (Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations). You may, therefore, find our LOLER Training useful.

Very informative

I now understand what equipment needs inspecting and when it needs inspecting.

Very NEBOSH
RatingRatingRatingRatingRating

Reminded me of doing my NEBOSH construction certificate years ago. The course seemed more of an “information dump” and I found it was quite difficult to retain the information. I didn’t like the question format for the most part as the wording is designed to catch you out. I feel like with courses like this particular one you should be able to review your answers before finally submitting your test.

Very informative.

What are the PUWER regulations?

Compliance

It's important that you comply with the law and know the ways in which it affects you and the way you work.

Any equipment used in the workplace must be maintained and adapted so that employees are not prone to the risk of injury and jeopardise Health and Safety. The PUWER regulations can be found below, so you can familiarise yourself with any offer a framework that work equipment should meet:

The Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998

You must ensure that the work equipment you provide meets the requirements of PUWER. You should ensure that it is:

■ suitable for use, and for the purpose and conditions in which it is to be used;
■ maintained in a safe condition for use so that people’s health and safety is not at risk; and
■ inspected, in certain circumstances, to ensure that it is and continues to be safe for use. Any inspection should be carried out by a competent person (this could be an employee if they have the necessary skills, knowledge and experience to perform the task) and a record kept until the next inspection.

The benefits of a PUWER training course for your business

A safe workplace means a happy workplace. Giving employees the peace of mind that they are working in a safe working environment and that the machinery they are operating is fit for purpose can make all the difference for your business.

Being recognised as a safe business helps to boost your standing amongst employees and increase your reputation within your specific industry. If your company gains a negative reputation for being unsafe, either through bad working practices or previous injuries, this will have a severe impact on the success of your business moving forward. Aligning your business approach to Health and Safety helps to raise awareness within the workforce and manage responsibilities effectively. That way, you’ll only serve to enhance your reputation, develop the understanding and knowledge to upskill your workforce and improve the morale of your employees.

What insights can employees gain an understanding of in this PUWER training course?

Our PUWER training course serves many different learning objectives. It helps to equip your employees with all the PUWER knowledge they need to understand the importance of the PUWER regulations. Topics covered include:

  • Awareness of staff duties and responsibilities under PUWER regulations
  • Identifying and managing risk with sufficient control measures
  • What hazards PUWER covers
  • Preparing for a PUWER inspection
