Your Legal Responsibilities

  • The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005

    The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 states that there must be a ‘competent person’ to implement the proactive and reactive measures required by this piece of legislation. A competent person would be someone that has the right knowledge and experience to be able to perform this role properly and show due diligence with the legislation.

  • The Health and Safety at Work Act 1974

    This is the key legislation that covers all things Health & Safety in the UK. This Act is enforced by the HSE in partnership with local authorities as well as a number of other Acts and Statutory Instruments that are relevant to the workplace. Under this act, employers have a duty to ‘ensure, so far as is reasonably practicable, the health, safety and welfare at work of all his employees’ and the premises.

  • Manual Handling Operations Regulations 1992

    Under these regulations, Manual Handling is taken to include the lifting, lowering, pushing, pulling, carrying, and movement of anything by hand or bodily force. The regulations also state employers must ensure that all workers receive proper training and information on how to handle loads correctly.

  • The Personal Protective Equipment at Work Regulations 1992

    This legislation covers the use and issue of PPE to employees. They seek to ensure that where the risks cannot be controlled by other means, Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is correctly selected and used.
