Soft drink sugar tax hits the UK

The tax on sugary soft drinks in the UK has officially come into force. Manufacturers must pay a levy on the high-sugar drinks that they sell.

Foundry fined for causing serious burns to workers

A foundry has been fined £60k after two employees were seriously burnt following an electrical flashover. HSE inspector Leigh Stanley said: “If a suitable safe system of work had been in place prior to the incident, the injuries sustained by the employees could have been prevented.”

Supermarket to ban palm oil in products

In an effort to tackle deforestation in tropical rainforests across southeast Asia, the supermarket has stated that it plans to remove all palm oil from own-brand products.
