The head of the UK's National Cyber Security Centre has stated that a devastating cyber-attack on the UK is a case of "When, not if". Ciaran Martin also said that the UK has so far been very fortunate to avoid a major attack or a so-called 'category one attack'.
Worryingly, the cyber attack in question could cause devastating disruption to elections and critical infrastructure across the UK, particularly in energy and financial services.
Martin said that he expects the C1 attack to hit the UK within the next 2 years - “I think it is a matter of when, not if and we will be fortunate to come to the end of the decade without having to trigger a category one attack” he said.
